Fall Placemat Instructions

Items Needed:

-Brown, Red, Yellow, Orange and Green Construction Paper
-Scissors
-Glue

Instructions:

-Cut the brown construction paper to be 1 inch by whatever length you want your placemat to be. If one piece of paper does not make it large enough, glue two pieces together. Depending on how high you want your placemat to be, will determine how many stripes you need to cut. (For example if you want it to be 8 inches tall, then you would need 8 strips).
-Cut the red, yellow, orange and green construction paper to be 1 inch by whatever height you decided. Again, depending on how high you want your placemat will determine how many stripes you need to cut. However, you will be alternating these 4 colors, therefore if the length of your placemat is 12 inches, you will need 3 stripes of each color.
-Start with laying one brown stripe lengthwise. Starting with the yellow, glue one end of the yellow stripe on top of the left most edge of the brown stripe (the yellow stripe should be going heightwise). Directly next to the yellow stripe, glue the end of the green stripe underneath the brown stripe, having the yellow and green edges touch. Then glue the orange stripe on top of the brown stripe, having the edge of it touch the edge of the green stripe. Then glue the red stripe under the brown stripe have the edge touch the orange one. Proceed alternating gluing the stripes on top and on bottom, rotating the colors. Do this the entire length of the placemat.
-The brown stripe needs to be weaved over and under all of the colors, opposite of the initial row. Meaning since the yellow was glued on top, now the brown stripe should be on top and since the green stripe glue underneath, now the brown stripe should be on top. Continue weaving the brown stripe across all colors.
-Take the next brown stripe and do the reverse of the last one. Continue alternating the brown stripes over and under, until you get to the bottom of your place.
-Go along the 3 edges that have not been glued down and glue all edges.
